[edit] Biography
Known for his solid defence, speed and aggressive playing abilities. Salcido is a marker and attacker, often leading swift counterstrikes from the back of the field. Salcido started his career with Chivas de Guadalajara and made his debut in the Primera División de México on July 22, 2001 in a 1-1 draw match against La Piedad. He would go on to play five half-seasons with Guadalajara and registering two goals in 105 matches. [1].
A popular sporting figure in Mexico, Salcido is a naturally gifted athlete that can play the ball with either foot. Even though he began his career as a forward, it is as a central left defender where he performs his best. In 2005, he played in the Confederations Cup in Germany, helping the Mexican national football team to a fourth place finish, where he appeared as a starter in all five matches. During a semi-final match against Argentina, Salcido scored a dynamic goal in extra time after recovering the ball in the Mexican area and driving the whole length of the pitch, dribbling past three defenders and scoring after the shot bounced off Fabricio Coloccini and fooled keeper Germán Lux.
He was one of the six players from Guadalajara called on April 2, 2006, by head coach Ricardo Lavolpe, to play for the Mexican National Team. Salcido played all four matches during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
[edit] European Team Offers
In June and July After the 2006 FIFA World Cup, press speculation linked Salcido to several International clubs in Europe, with one report claiming on that he had agreed to sign for FA Premier League club Arsenal F.C.[2] However, these speculations proved false as he signed a four-year contract with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on July 10, 2006.
He is an important part of the Squad where he and teammates Alex and Manuel da Costa form a tough defense. Salcido has been a starter and is one of the men of trust of Coach Ronald Koeman. He has played in the Dutch League and in the Champions League where PSV is to great accomplishments. On November 18, 2006, He scored his first goal in Europe. It was a spectacular long distance goal in a match against Excelsior Rotterdam that ended in 4-0.
Salcido is linked in going to Chelsea FC for the 2007 Summer transfer window along side his national teamate Rafael Marquez from FC Barcelona.
