Carol A. Strickland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carol A. Strickland is an American fiction writer, pop culture scholar, & comics fan.
While she is far less well-known than influential Wonder Woman fans like Gloria Steinem & Trina Robbins, her fan scholarship on the DC Comics series, especially those action series known for high appeal to female audiences, has made her something of a grande dame of DC superhero fandom.
Her unofficial background work on Wonder Woman includes:
- Detailed criticism of the history of the character, & of Wonder Woman's visual presentation as a female character usually drawn by men;
- A proposed (but not accepted) revision of Wonder Woman rooted more heavily in ancient mythology;
- Wonder Girl & "Impossible Family" proto-fanon; more "personal canon" than fanon, but then Wonder Woman’s official continuity has changed so often that the canon lacks even the necessary substrate of consistency upon which a fanon can be based.
She designed a costume for the Legion of Super-Heroes character Light Lass in the 1970's, which was adopted & used in the series by the artist Dave Cockrum[1].
