Caroline Bauer (1807-1877) was born Caroline Philippine Auguste Bauer of an actress called Lina Bauer. She was a cousin of Christian Friedrich Freiherr von Stockmar, an advisor of Leopold I of Belgium. On 2 July 1829, Caroline married Prince Leopold (later King Leopold I of Belgium), in nuptials of doubtful validity (a private marriage-contract). Caroline was created Countess of Montgomery and the marriage reportedly ended in 1831. Caroline Bauer died in 1877 from an overdose of sleeping pills.
