Clarification on his birth name: My father (who died in 2003) grew up on a farm between the towns of Cord and Charlotte, Arkansas (near Sulphur Rock), and knew Carl Garner as a child; he knew that his legal name was "William", but even then he went by "Carl". This is corroborated by the official name of the lake visitors center named for him, the "William Carl Garner Visitors Center" [1]. AFAIK "Carl" wasn't his middle name either, but it's the name he's used all his life (not to mention its use in an act of Congress), so "Carl Garner" as the title of this article is correct. --RBBrittain 03:12, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
