Caulkicephalus trimicrodon Martill et. al., 2005 |
Caulkicephalus trimicrodon is reportedly a new species of pterosaur; it was only discovered three years ago on the Isle of Wight off the coast of England. The new species, whose name means "Caulk Head" (a nickname for Isle of Wight residents), was identified by a partial fossil skeleton and partial skull, including several teeth. The specific name for the pterosaur, trimicrodon, means "three small teeth".
From the evidence collected and comparison with other ornithocheirids, paleobiologists have been able to determine that this pterosaur had a wingspan of around 5 meters.
