CBU-26
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The CBU-26 (Cluster Bomb Unit-26) is a weapon developed by the United States for anti personnel purposes.
The bomb contains 670 tennis ball-sized submunitions, each holding 300 metal fragments. When detonated, the CBU-26 projects 200,000 fragments over a large area.
This particular model was used extensively in Laos during the Vietnam war. Unexploded canisters comprising up to 30% of fragments may have an estimated 10 million unexploded cluster bombs. It is estimated that people are still killed every day in Laos, due to a war three decades ago.
