Certificate of Secondary Education
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) was a former English school leaving qualification which was available along with the GCE "O" Levels between the period from 1965 to 1987.
It was designed for less academically able students who were not capable of taking the "O" Levels. But, some students took both GCE and CSE particularily in subjects such as technical drawing and metalwork. There were five pass grades in its grading system ranging from grades 1 to 5 with grade 1 being recognised as equivalent to one "O Level" pass.
{however: 'O' level grade C = CSE Grade 2}.
It was replaced along with the "O" Levels by the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in 1988.
