Chūkyō region
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chūkyō region (中京地方 Chūkyō-chihō) lies in the middle of Japan's main island, Honshu.
The Chūkyō region encompasses the areas which there is an influrence of Nagoya. In a wide sense, Chūkyō district is interpreted three prefectures, Aichi, Gifu and Mie.
Greater Nagoya is called Chūkyō Metropolitan Area (中京圏), and Nagoya is sometimes called ("Chūkyō") or "middle capital", because it is the largest city in the area between Tokyo, the "eastern capital", and Kyoto, the western capital (and formerly the only one), though it is a misnomer as it has never been a national capital.
