Chad Edward Gaudin (born March 24, 1983 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a right-handed relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics.
Selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 34th Round (1009th overall) of the 2001 amateur entry draft, Gaudin reached the majors in just his second season as a professional. After posting a very respectable 2-0 record and 3.60 ERA in 15 appearances (including 3 starts) in 2003 for the Devil Rays, he went 1-2 with a 4.85 ERA in 26 appearances (4 starts) in 2004 while splitting time at AAA Durham.
On December 12, 2004, Gaudin was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for backup catcher Kevin Cash. Although he pitched well as a starter at AAA Syracuse, he was just 1-3 with a 13.15 ERA in 5 appearances (3 starts) with the Blue Jays. On December 5, 2005, he was traded to the Athletics for a player to be named later, and on December 8, 2005, outfielder Dustin Majewski was traded to the Blue Jays to complete the transaction.
The A's have used Gaudin strictly in relief in 2006 with notable success (although he began the year as a starter at AAA Sacramento), and he has even collected two saves.
Gaudin is 5'11, which is fairly short for a pitcher, and is known for an excellent hard slider, which has a lot of movement.
