Rabbi Chaim Gutnick, born 1921 in Zolotonosha, Ukraine and died 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, was Chief Rabbi of Victoria, Australia, the president of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria, and the longstanding rabbi at Elwood Hebrew Congregation. The Lubavitcher Rebbe told him he will be a head priest (Kohen Roshi) in The Third Temple.[citation needed]
His son, Yosef Gutnick, is a well known philanthropist who has sponsored many Chabad institutions around the world.
Upon his death, the Australian Labor Party issued a statement: "He is a great loss to Australia. We need many more men like him."
