Roger Chan Yuet Tung (Chinese: 陳乙東; born 20 August 1955) is a Hong Kong resident made famous for his role in The Bus Uncle incident as the Bus Uncle.
In 1997, 2002 and 2005, Chan attempted to run for Chief Executive of Hong Kong but failed to qualify as candidate a due to lack of nominations.
In April 2006, a video clip appeared on the video-sharing website YouTube, in which Chan used an unusual level of profanity to scold a young fellow passenger, Elvis Ho Yui Hei (Chinese: 何銳熙) on a bus. The video instantly became a cultural phenomenon in Hong Kong, with some of his phrases like "not settled"/"not resolved" and "You have pressure, I have pressure" becoming catchphrases among the younger generation. On 30 May, Next Magazine - a gossip magazine, identified Chan as the Bus Uncle and interviewed him. Chan claimed he was unemployed and relied on social security payments for his living. He also claimed he was in a suicidal mood and was calling the Samaritans for help when interrupted by Ho who tapped on his shoulder to ask him to lower his voice.
While there were numerous speculations that Chan had received payments from Next Magazine for taking part in the interview, it is not yet known whether this has been the case.
On June 7, 2006 Chan, who had been hired by a restaurant, The Steak Expert, as a Public Relations officer, was physically assaulted on-the-job in front of horrified diners by three unidentified masked men who then fled the scene [1]. Mr. Chan sustained severe injuries to his eyes and face and was admitted to the emergency department for treatment.
