Chandra Swamy

Chandra Sergran ("Tommy") Swamy is a Canadian politician who was born in Vitogo, Lautoka, in Fiji. He was educated at Dasbhandu Primary School and Drasa Secondary School in Fiji, before pursuing further studies on a part-time basis at Grandville Technical College in Sydney, Australia.
Swamy intended to contest the Edmonton Centre electorate in the general election on 23 January 2006, attempting to unseat Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan. In the end, however, he did not contest the seat.
According to the Fiji Times, Swamy, the scion of a prominent Lautoka family, was the first person born in Fiji proposing to contest a Canadian election.
Swamy has been a justice of the peace since 1998, is President of the Fiji Soccer Association of Edmonton, and is involved with a number of religious organizations.
