Charlotte Preparatory School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charlotte Preparatory School (CPS) is a college preparatory, co-educational day school located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Charlotte Montessori School was founded in the Dilworth area of Charlotte in 1971. The school moved to the southeast Charlotte campus off Sardis Road in 1992. A middle school was added and the school's name was changed to Charlotte Preparatory School in 1998.
The Early School (ages 3 through 5) is grounded in the time-honored teaching philosophy of education pioneer Dr. Maria Montessori. Our Lower School (Kindergarten through 4th Grade) is the ideal bridge from the Montessori-based Early School to the challenging, inspiring curriculum and more independent structure of the Middle School. The Middle School (5th through 8th Grade) presents an opportunity for high school and college preparation with a demanding and varied academic curriculum.
CPS's Head of School, Maura Leahy-Tucker, has led the school for almost 20 years. The school is privately owned, fiscally sound and operating within a balanced budget without required annual giving from the parents.
CPS has over sixty-five professional faculty members; fourteen have Master's degrees and one holds a doctoral degree. Our teachers bring an average of twelve years of teaching experience to each classroom.
