It is the first American edition of James Joyce's first book, "Chamber Music".
Sumner and Stillman describe their edition as follows:

First American Edition of Joyce's first book, which according to Slocum consisted of "probably about 1,000" copies. CHAMBER MUSIC was first published by Elkin Mathews (at the urging of Arthur Symons) in London in 1907. In early 1918 Mathews published a second edition, after which Alfred Bartlett of the Cornhill Company had this unauthorized American edition printed. About three months after that, in late 1918, B. W. Huebsch published an authorized American edition.
This copy has laid endpapers (as well as text); some have wove endpapers, precedence not known. This is a fine copy, without soil or wear (cover gilt a little oxidized, as usual with these wartime books); this copy has no dust jacket, which was only a piece of unprinted glassine paper. Slocum A5.
