There is a second article "Karl Follen"! --134.93.192.167 20:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
The date of birth of Karl Follen is a problem. I searched the web with GOOGLE and found 1794, 1795, 1796 and September 4, 5, 6. There were more pages with 1796, so I take this for the article. One ought to find the birth certificate, but how? --Siffler 18:54, 4 March 2006 (UTC
The pregnant mother of Charles had left Giessen and retired to Romrod, as the town of Giessen was occupied by French revolutionary troops under General Bernadotte. This ought to be the year 1796. --Siffler 10:41, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
General Bernadotte took command of the troops in 1798, chosing Giessen as his headquarter. He was also in Germany 1796, but presumably not in Giessen. But the troops arrived in the Giessen region 1796, so that Charles could not have born in 1794 or 1795. General Bernadotte was made Ph.D. honoris causa in December 1798 at the University of Giessen. --Siffler 11:06, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
