The story was huge at the time. A student takes the reins of a highly visible charity and uses the opportunity to steal from children dying of cancer. The scandal played itself out in the Boston papers especially, but also the New York Times and other significant publications. A partial bibliography follows:

The crime may have taken place a while ago, but I believe it ought to be the nature of an encyclopedia to help us remember things that are important, even after they fade from the headlines. Uucp 23:03, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure what part of the notability standard you think this entry violates. Lots of criminals appear in Wikipedia, their crimes hurt people and some, like this case, are cultural touchstones. In addition to the citations above, I can show you articles about Chas Lee in the Boston Herald, UPI, Totonto Star, and various academic publications dating at least as recent as 2002. This crime, together with similar crimes by other students in the next few years, had lead to a number of new rules and programs at Harvard and other schools, aimed to preventing recurrence.
