Chi-Chi (Scarface)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chi-Chi is a fictional character played by Ángel Salazar[1] from the 1983 movie Scarface.
[edit] Chi-Chi in the Plot
Chi-Chi first appears in the scene in which Tony Montana, Manolo (Manny) Ribera, and Angel Fernandez are approaching the Sun-Ray Motel to make a cocaine deal with Hector the Toad. When they arrive, Tony orders Chi-Chi and Manny to stay in the car while he makes the deal with Angel as his backup, so if the "Columbians" decide to get rough, he won't be alone. Tony also tells them that if he is not out in fifteen minutes, the two are to check things out. And, as one would expect from foreshadowing, Tony and Angel are captured, and hung up in a bathroom to face brutal execution with a chainsaw. As Angel is being torn apart in an attempt to break Tony, Manny is flirting outside, Chi-Chi at his side dancing to some music. After Manny's failed attempt at wooing the woman, the two figure they should check on Tony. Manny orders Chi-Chi to go around back, and Manny heads up. Hearing the chainsaw, Manny shoots his way in, and gets shot in the shoulder. Chi-Chi then enters the room and saves Manny from a second henchman. Chi-Chi, after Tony frees himself, helps Manny get up and then gets the "yeyo" (a term that refers to cocaine).
Chi-Chi is not seen again until right after Tony is shot at the Babylon Club. He, along with Manny, accompanies Tony to Frank Lopez's office in Lopez Motors. After Tony kills Lopez and Mel Bernstein, a Maimi Vice Officer, he offers Ernie, Lopez's now ex-associate, a job. When he accepts, Chi-Chi congragulates him, proclaiming "Hey, man, you got a job!2"
[edit] The Last Stand
Chi-Chi only appears a few times throughout the rest of the film, particularly in brief moments where he is seen helping Tony search for Manny, and after Manny's demise, getting Gina back to the mansion and calmed down.
Finally, Sosa's men arrive at the mansion, killing many of Tony's men, including Ernie. They show up inside, guns blazing. Chi-Chi, using a submachine gun, kills a few of the soldiers, but accepts that he is outnumbered. Chi-Chi dashes to the top of the stairs and frantically pounds on Tony's office door, begging him to open up, but to no avail. The drugged-up Tony is to preoccupied with Gina, lying dead in front of him to notice Chi-Chi's cries for help. A soldier then approaches Chi-Chi from behind with an automatic weapon, and kills Chi-Chi with four shots to the back.
Chi-Chi's death causes Tony to snap to attention, thus leading to the famous "Say 'Hello' to my little friend!"2 sequence, and Tony's last stand.
