Chichibu District, Saitama

Chichibu (秩父郡; -gun) is a district located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 61,755 and a density of 77.58 persons per km². The total area is 796.03 km².
Excluding the city of Chichibu, the district has five municipaliities.

- December 1, 1946 - The town of Mino was split off to the town of Minano and the villages of Misawa, Kunikami, Hinozawa, Kanazawa and Ota.
- April 1, 1948 - The district transferred the village of Yano to Kodama District.
- April 1, 1950 - The town of Chichibu gained city status.
- May 3, 1954 - The villages of Harase and Otasho were merged into the city of Chichibu.
- November 3, 1954 - The village of Hisana merged into the city of Chichibu.
- February 11, 1955
- The villages of Yokoze and Agakubo merged to form the village of Yokoze.
- The villages of Okado merged with the villages of Hira and Ankaku from Hiki District to form the village of Tokikawa in Hiki District.
- March 1, 1955 - The town of Minano and the villages of Kunikami, Kanazawa and Hinozawa merged to form the town of Minano.
- April 1, 1955 - The town of Ogano and the village of Nagawaka merged to form the town of Ogano.
- March 31, 1956 - The town of Ogano and the villages of Kurao and Mitagawa merged to form the town of Ogano.
- August 1, 1956
- The town of Yoshida and the village of Kamiyoshida merged to form the town of Yoshida.
- The villages of Tsukikawa and Okawahara merged to form the village of Higashichichibu.
- September 30, 1956 - The village of Urayama merged into the viilage of Kagemori to become the town of Kagemori.
- March 31, 1957 - The village of Misawa merged into the town of Minano.
- May 3, 1957 - The villages of Takajo and Ota were merged into the city of Chichibu.
- May 31, 1958 - The town of Kagemori merged into the city of Chichibu.
- November 1, 1972 - The town of Nogami renamed to the town of Nagatoro.
- October 1, 1984 - The village of Yokoze gained town status.
- April 1, 2005 - The town of Yoshida and the villages of Arakawa and Otaki merged with the city of Chichibu to form the city of Chichibu.
- October 1, 2005 - the village of Ryokami and the town of Ogano merged to form the new town of Ogano.
