Children With Leukaemia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Children With Leukaemia is a registered charity (no. 298405) inaugurated in 1988 by Diana, Princess of Wales in memory of Jean and Paul O'Gorman. The charity supports and organises events and money raising to aid children struck with leukaemia.
In February 1987, leukaemia killed 14-year-old Paul O'Gorman. Just nine months later, his sister Jean died, also of cancer. Paul's parents had promised him to help other children with leukaemia.
Those who raise money involve themselves in events such as the Flora London Marathons, or by organising various races or sport tournaments.
[edit] Fundraising
Annually, a 12-hour walk takes place from Wigan to St Helens town centers, where both male and female participants dress as St Trinians schoolgirls, and walk the streets raising money. Anne Ferguson organises the walk each year, and had a large amount of success on the seventh walk which took place on Saturday 3rd September 2005.
