The school was named after Caroline Chisholm and sits opposite to the local High School; Caroline Chisholm High School, and Chisholm Preschool is a also a neighbour. It was opened by the Honorary Ros Kelly, MP for Canberra.
The first principal of the school was Don Griffiths, who then later retired in 1992.
The school is well known for its special programs it runs such as the K.E.W.L. Kids Program (Kids Empowered With Leadership), where students in the senior section of the school mediate playground areas and help out the teachers playground-duty wise.
