Born in a traditional South Indian family with a rich cultural heritage, Chithra was initiated into carnatic music at a very young age and started her musical career under the tutelage of her mother Smt.Susila Seetharaman, a senior Carnatic vocalist. She was fortunate to receive training from Tiger Varadacharya’s foremost disciple, Shri Chalapuram Papa and later with Shri.Mathur P.Balasubramaniam. She is currently pursuing her music under the expert tutelage of Shri.T.V.Gopalakrishnan, an exemplary musician and a renowned musicologist. Her Guru, popularly known as TVG is very particular that all his students should be socially conscious and responsible citizens, contributing to the general welfare of society. He said,"Only such individuals can become good musicians".

Blessed with a rich and mellifluous voice, Chithra has performed extensively in India and abroad. She has given live concerts and also featured in South Indian premier television channels. She has released her first Carnatic album ‘Carnatic Delights’ in March 2006.

Chithra Ramakrishnan has sung her first song in the Tamil Film "Veeran", a movie starred by the popular south indian actor Nagarjuna. The music for the song is rendered by the popular Telugu Music Director Mr.Devishri Prasad.

Guru and Shishya, with her guru TVG, one of the stalwart of carnatic musicBesides her musical pursuits, she is also an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer, trained in the Vazhuvoor style.-She has been conferred Natya Bhooshan in 1983 by Bharatnatyala and Trichy Fine arts.

To propagate the rich South Indian art forms globally, she started Shruthi UK, a non –profit organisation, now based in Staffordshire -dedicated to music and dance. She conducts workshops and interactive sessions with children and also with the community to create an awareness and interest in rich Indian tradition. An MBA in Marketing and Finance and Human resources, Chithra holds a doctorate in Management. She has also made her debut as a playback singer in South Indian movies.
