I was born in Southfield, Michigan but I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I graduated from Community High School and then moved to Houston, Texas where I briefly attended the University of Houston. I came back to Ann Arbor and worked various crap jobs for companies like Tower Records and Nebraska Book Company. When my favorite soda shop closed down I decided it was time to move to Chicago, Illinois. I had a boring secretarial job so I learned about Unix and ended up getting a job in tech support and finally became a system administrator. I worked at a couple internet service providers, then I worked at the University of Chicago for a while, and now I work for Playboy Enterprises. In my spare time I work as a disc jockey; I used to have a show at WCBN and now I have one on WHPK. Music formats I especially like ska, early jazz and blues, garage rock and psychedelia, Ethiopian and Armenian music, gamelan, and sound collage. My favorite composers are Kurt Weill and Harry Partch. I am also interested in genealogy, typography, stereo photography, highbrow comic books like Love and Rockets, Cerebus, and RAW, movies and animation, and copyright issues. I am a skeptic and an atheist. My politics are center-right; I reluctantly voted for George W. Bush in 2004. Although I lean Republican, I can't stand the religious right and never agree with them; I'm pro-pornography (obviously) and in favor of gay marriage. My cultural tastes as well as my occupation and upbringing have ensured that pretty much everyone I ever come in contact with socially is very left-wing, which makes my life interesting. On the computer nerd front, while I don't hate Windows anywhere near as much as my fellow nerds do, I do prefer FreeBSD and Linux (specifically Linux from Scratch). I love caffeine but I don't take any illegal drugs, although I have no problem with people who do. I rarely drink. I'm nearsighted, epileptic, and I have flat feet.
