Chris Russell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chris Russell is the host of Russell Mania on Sporting News Radio. Russell has hosted shows on SportsFan Radio Network, WGR-55 Sports Radio in Buffalo, NY, WFAN in New York, and Sporting News Radio. He has also worked with CBS Sportsline. Russell especially loves the NFL and college football. He has two kids that he loves dearly.
Russell gained notoriety among SEC fans after writing a November 12th, 2006 column on SportingNews.com titled "F is for fraud in Florida". Among the claims made by Russell in that column include:
- The eventual BCS National Champ Florida Gators were a "fraud" who had "no business winning week after week". He made this claim repeatedly and emphatically (sample quote: "However, anyone -- and this means anyone that has any football knowledge at all -- knows the Florida Gators are a complete fraud")
- The SEC was an "overrated" conference with one really good team - Arkansas (weeks later, the LSU Tigers from the SEC would blow out Russell's beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl).
- The 11-2 Auburn Tigers are "mystifyingly bad"
After being proven wrong, Russell ate a lot of crow on his "Russell Mania" radio show, which airs Saturday mornings from 2 AM - 6 AM ET and Sunday mornings at 1 AM - 5 AM ET.
