Christine Ohuruogu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Christine Ohuruogu (born May 17, 1984) is an English sprinter of Nigerian heritage who specialises in the 400 metres. Ohuruogu was also a netball player but quit in 2003 in order to concentrate on athletics.
At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics she won a bronze medal in 4 x 400 metres relay together with Lee McConnell, Donna Fraser and Nicola Sanders. She won a gold medal for England in the 400 m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in a personal best time of 50.28 seconds, beating favourite Tonique Williams-Darling in both her semi-final and the final.[1]
Christine Ohuruogu has been suspended from competing in the 2006 European Athletics Championships. The reason for this is she missed 3 out of competition drugs tests. One in July 2005, and two in June 2006. According to IAAF and British Olympic Association rules, she received a one-year ban for missing these out-of-competition drug tests. As of September 2006, The British Olympic Association may now also ban her from competing at future Olympic Games for Great Britain.[2] She appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but the original decision was upheld.[3]
Ohuruogu studied linguistics at University College London.
