[edit] Romans 3:3
Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness
Belief in God credits you with righteousness. woah, is that awesome or what ? I like the very though of that verse.
- Yes, it's a great concept. Unfortunately, we can't feature a single verse. Perhaps this can be expanded with information from the surrounding text and can then be considered for September, the previous months now occupied. Thanks for your input! Cheers! Brisvegas 11:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] John 3:16
I know it's probably a (among Christians) well known one, but I love it and always will:
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV version)

- Thanks for your suggestion. Although I agree that this is one of the most inspiring passages from the Bible, the extract must be more than one verse long. (This verse is mentioned in the Did you know? section every Saturday BTW). Could you expand this passage to include surrounding text? If so, then this can be used. [edit] Exodus 20:2-7;12-17
God is telling Moses how to life a healthy life 2-7"I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in Egypt. Do not worship and other gods besides me. Do not make idols of any kind, whether in the shape of dirds or animlas or fish. You must never worship or bow down to them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not share your affection with any other god! I do not leave unpunished the sins of those who hate mem but I punish the children for the sins of their parents to the third and fourth generations. But I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands, even for a thousand generations. Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name." 12-17 "Honor your father and mother. Then you will live along, full life in the land the Lord your God will give you. Do not murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not testify falsely against your neighbor. Do not covet your neighbor's house. Do not covet your neighbor's wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else your neighbor owns."
These are most of the Ten Commandments, the other is in verses 8-11. It says: "Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days are set apart for working, (Sunday-Friday), but the Seventh day is a day of rest." It then goes on saying that no one in your household, including pets and animals, should work on the Seventh day, (Saturday). These rules are the basis of healthy Christian living.
Jesus gave us these rules to live a healthy life, and He gave us theses rules so that we won't stray from His path. If we break a commandment, Jesus will forgive us if we ask Him. By accepting Jesus into our hearts, and living by these standards, we can live eternally with Him. So why not get on your knees and pray, and ask Jesus to forgive your sins right now.

- Thanks for the nomination. The Ten Commandments must definitely be showcased at some point - perhaps in May, since the passage for April has already been chosen (it includes John 3:16).
[edit] The Beatitudes
Matthew 5:2-12
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven."

- Unfortunately, the Beatitudes were already featured during Februrary. :( Still, we may be able to showcase them again at a later date. Brisvegas 10:26, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

[edit] Luke 9:62
This is a terrific passage for those who may be holding on to the past and need to be reminded to move on in the name of Christ.
Luke 9:62
Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

- Thank you for your suggestion, but submissions should be more than one verse long (sorry for not having made that clear earlier). Still, I agree with you that this is a confronting quotation that is certainly food for thought. If you can make a longer submission, then that can be considered. Thank you! [edit] Matthew 7
1Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2For with the judgement you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3Why do you see the speck in your neighbour’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your neighbour, “Let me take the speck out of your eye”, while the log is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbour’s eye.
- Excellent! It will be featured in July, there being no objections. Thanks for the submission! Brisvegas 11:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Matthew 6
19`Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; 20but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- Perhaps this could be lengthened as well, but it certainly is a great passage that highlights the core precepts of Christianity. This can be considered for display during August. Thank you for the suggestion! Brisvegas 11:41, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Luke 6:27-31
27But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold your shirt. 30Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.
[edit] Luke 6:46-49
46Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I tell you? 47I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them. 48That one is like a man building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when a flood arose, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against it, immediately it fell, and great the ruin of that house.
[edit] John 13:34-35
34I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you should also love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
[edit] Matthew 7:13-14
13 "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. 14For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and their are few who find it."
[edit] Matthew 6:25-34
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink;
or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
[edit] Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
[edit] John 13:27
As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.
[edit] Luke 22:3-6
Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
[edit] Isaiah 53:3-5
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
I like this verses very much!84.146.223.83 15:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
What about another passage from Isaiah after this one? Why not work through the whole Bible, 5 verses at a time? Andy
[edit] 1 John 4:16b-21
16b God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as he is, so we are in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
[edit] Psalm 51
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.
14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
This Psalm means everything.
James.S 07:13, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Isaiah 56:2-8 Kings James Version Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing evil. '3' Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the Lord, speak, saying, the Lord hath utterly separated me his people; neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. 4 For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. 6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, every one thatkeepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; 7 Even them will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Isaiah 66:22-24 Kings James Version 22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, wich I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. '23' And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord. 24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.I have discovered while reading my bible that the seventh day sabbath was established during creation by God; it was written on stone as one of the ten commandments; it was observed by Jesus and all the apostles; it will be kept in heaven according to isaiah 66:22,23. The question i am asking is why do most christians observe Sunday(the day of the SUN) instead of saturday which the Lord commanded us to keep?
