Churchill Boys High School, Harare

Located along Nigel Phillip road in the suburb of Eastlea in Zimbabwe Churchill Boys' High School was founded in 1950 as Eastlea Boys' High School. The first headmaster was 'Jeeves' Hougaard who helped inspire most of Churchill's traditions. Among them the name of the school and its affiliation to Winston Churchill and his family, and the establishment of the school mascot - The Bulldog. The games houses were named after pilots who died during WW2. The school is well known for having the first school Pipe Band in Zimbabwe. The boarding House which had about 80 pupils, was called Winston House.
Churchill Boys' High is well known for producing cricket players of a national and international caliber, the likes of Tatenda Taibu, Hamilton Masakadzaand footballer [henry sibenge]. Other inspiration sports people include former Sables (Zimbabwe Rugby) captain Andy Ferreira, athlete Stan Flowers, and prominent businessmen like Nigel Chanakira and Farai Rwodzi.It has also produced soccer stars like Evans Gwekwerere,Norman Maroto,Leo Kurauzvione,Eddie Mashiri and many more.
At one time,the school's pipe band entered the Guinness' book of records for the longest piping hours.4 pipers, Neville workman,Patrick Forth ,Paul Harris and Clive Higgins blew their pipes for a combined 100 hours breaking the previous record of 80 hours.
Alumni from the school are known simply as Winstonians and belong to the 'Old Winstonians' association. The site can be accessed at www.winstonians.org.zw.
