Cindy Wilson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cynthia Leigh Wilson (b. February 28, 1957 in Athens, Georgia) is part of one of the most enduring American musical groups of the alternative era, The B-52's. She began her career as a waitress in her home state of Georgia. Wilson is well known for wearing high blonde beehive wigs (also known as a B-52), which were familiar in the 1960's when pop singers like Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark wore them. She has a strong and melodic voice, and sings well in harmony, particularly as demonstrated with Kate Pierson of the B-52's. Cindy also plays the bongos.
Her late brother, Ricky Wilson, was also a founding member of The B-52's. He died at the age of 32 in late 1985 of AIDS-related complications. Cindy Wilson took a sabbatical from the band in 1990 to concentrate on her family and child, during which The B-52's recorded and released the album Good Stuff. Good Stuff is the only B-52's album released as a trio of Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland and Fred Schneider. During the live tour to promote the Good Stuff album in 1992 and 1993, Julee Cruise sang as a replacement for Cindy. Cindy rejoined The B-52's in 1994 and continues to tour and record with the band.
