Clobetasol propionate comes in ointment and emollient cream presentations. It is a very high potency topical corticosteroid that should not be used with occlusive dressings. It is recommended that treatment should be limited to 2 consecutive weeks and therapy should be discontinued when adequate results have been achieved. Clobetasol propionate is marketed and sold worldwide under numerous names including Temovate (US), Tenovate, Dermovate, Dermatovate, and Butavate.
It is used to treat diseases such as eczema and psoriasis, where it is used on the scalp and body. Also dispensed to counter auto-immune presentations, such as Alopecia areata (hair loss due to auto-immune diseases).
