Clophill Church
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St Marys Church in Clophill is located in a small hamlet between Bedford and Luton, in the South East of England. The abandoned Church is estimated to be up to 400 years old, but was replaced by a Victorian church built in 1848 in the centre of the Village, rendering it obsolete. The Church grounds itself used to be the location of a leper colony.
[edit] Paranormal Activity
The Church made it onto the British headlines in the 1960s when it was discovered that Satanic rituals had gone on within the Church. Bones had been removed from one of the larger graves and then placed in a circle along with cockerel feathers. Upon the railings sat the impaled skull of the exhumed body. A similar incident in the 1970s included the scattering of bones throughout the Church yard.
The site has been a fairground of paranormal activity and unwanted attention since the attraction given to the site by the exaggerated stories in the press. It attracts vistors from far and wide looking for ghosts and other paranormal activity although sadly most leave empty handed. Visiting the church after dark is no longer recommended. This is not because of the ghosts like 'the mad axeman' or the 'white lady' but because lately it has become a magnet for unruly youths, drug dealers, and other undesirable elements of society.
[edit] Investigations
Many parties have attempted to investigate the site of Clophill church and many photographs which strange anomalies have been taken. Some video footage has also been taken by amateur paranormal investigators. Some of the investigations have revealed the possible presence of several spirits in the area.
