These coats of arms were adopted by the city of Alzenau after the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior had given permission in 1926.
On a red shield, two crossed golden twigs and above that the wheel of Mainz.
The wheel indicates the long-lasting political and ecclesiastical connection to Mainz.
The golden twigs represent the "Märkerding", an assembly of the free peasants which took place every year on Pentecost on the Church mountain. This body elected the officials (forrester, market supervisor) by handing them such a twig.
