Conejo Valley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by the Spanish government (conejo means "rabbit" in Spanish, of which there are many in the area).
[edit] Geography
The area is bordered by San Fernando Valley to the east, Simi Hills to the north, Las Posas Hills and Santa Rosa Valley to the northwest, Conejo Mountain (also known as Conejo Hills) and Oxnard Plain to the west, and Santa Monica Mountains to the south and Pacific Ocean beyond it. It is located in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
Many high-tech companies, particularly those in biotechnology, including Amgen and Baxter, are prevalent in the area. Although the region is predominantly white with a large Hispanic minority, there is a small, but growing, Asian minority in the region, many of which work in the region's many high-tech companies.
Due to a severe housing shortage in Ventura County especially in the Conejo Valley, it's private low key location, it's country feel, and it's close proximity to Los Angeles, the Conejo Valley Area has become a very attractive place to live. It once had relatively inexpensive real estate, but this has changed due to sky rocketing real estate prices. Median home prices in the Conejo Valley for instance, now range from $700,000 to $2.2 million. The Conejo Valley Area is one of the most affluent areas in the country.
