The Constitution of Rwanda was adopted on May 30, 1991. The Constitution sanctioned a republican form of government denying any possibility for the restoration of monarchy.
It is specified in the preamble that the Republic of Rwanda is concerned with "the national unity, peace, social justice, and respect for human rights based on liberty, equality, and fraternity for all members of the Rwandan community".
The Constitution is composed of five main titles: "The Republic", "Public Liberties", "Powers", "Revision of the Constitution" and "General and Transitional Provisions".
