Copywrite (born Peter James Nelson) is an underground hip-hop artist from Columbus, Ohio. A member of the Columbus crew MHz (or MegaHertz), Nelson emerged from the underground scene in 2002 with his collaboration with producer RJD2 on the track "Holier Than Thou". His debut album The High Exhaulted was released on the Eastern Conference label to some praise, although some felt that RJD2's beats were too dark for Copywrite's persona. [1] His second release, Cruise Control Mixtape: Volume 1, was released on the O.D.O.T. record label in 2005. Copywrite was a member of Cage's rap 'supergroup' the Weathermen, but left after personal disagreements with Cage and Camu Tao.
[edit] PowerBar Ernie
PowerBar Ernie is a satirical, comical and nonsensical creation from the mind of Copywrite. To date, Copywrite has released two albums under the PowerBar Ernie name, Bagface 5: Bedroom Hustlers and Poor Boy Lover Plus. Neither album was commercially released and are becoming increasingly hard to find over the internet. Although Copywrite has never personally taken credit for the PowerBar Ernie work, it has been alluded to by several rappers that PowerBar Ernie is indeed Copywrite, most notably on the 7L & Esoteric diss track "Runaway", which contains the line "Hillbilly Pete tryin' to keep it street, but you nerdy / Actin' 730 when you Powerbar Ernie". In an internet interview on Gorillamovement.com, rapper Icon the Mic King also suggests that Copywrite is PowerBar Ernie. [2] This has never been proven and most that come forward with allegations have personal issues with Copywrite.[citation needed]
