- Leaves: dark green, thick, glossy, with tightly waved edges.
- Flowers: small, white or reddish, fragrant, in clusters.
- Fruit: glossy, bright red and persistent on plant for a long time if not removed.
- Seeds: germinate readily under dense canopy; spread by birds and humans.
