Count Ernst of Lippe-Biesterfeld

Count Ernst of Lippe-Biesterfeld (9 June 1842-26 September 1904) was the regent of Principality of Lippe from 1897 till 1904.
He was born in Obercassel the third child of Count Julius of Lippe-Biesterfeld (1812-1884) and Countess Adelheid of Castell-Castell (1818-1900).
Prince Adolf of Schaumburg-Lippe had been appointed regent of Lippe in 1895 following the death of Woldemar, Prince of Lippe, due to Woldemar's brother Alexander being unable rule. Ernst replaced Prince Adolf in 1897 and remained regent until his death in Jagdschloß Lopshorn at which point his son Leopold succeeded him as regent and would then become Prince of Lippe four months later on the death of Prince Alexander.
Ernst was married to Countess Karoline of Wartensleben (1844-1905) on the 16 September 1869 in Neudorf. From the marriage he had six children.
