Craig Armstrong is an English footballer, who plays in midfield for Cheltenham Town and was born in South Shields on the 23 May 1975.
Craig has had an illustrated footballing career and started his career at Nottingham Forest in 1992, graduating from their highly rated academy. He played 24 matches at the City Ground, he didn't score and stayed at Nottingham for six years. However, lack of first team action meant Chris moved to Burnley on a temporary loan deal two years in his Nottingham career, he played four times at Burnley but moved back to Nottingham, failing to score. Consequently, Chris decided to drop a level to get recognized better and moved to Bristol Rovers on another loan deal, again making four appearances again failing to score. However, his performances were good and was recalled a month later to play a further nine matches at the Memorial Stadium, he still didn't score. Next up, Gillingham took Chris on loan, Chris played ten matches as a defensive midfielder, he didn't score, but impressed the watching scouts with his defensive abilities. He then moved to Watford a year later, but his loan deal was cut short through injury. However, when Chris recovered, Watford took him on loan for a second time with a view for a transfer. 12 matches later and it looked like Chris hadn't done enough to get that elusive deal out of Nottingham.
Chris finally got that transfer away from Nottingham Forest in 1999 when Huddersfield Town agreed a 750,000 pound move. He played 112 matches at Huddersfield and is respected and considered a club legend, he scored six times and was a defensive midfielder. In 2002, Chris pulled off a respectable 100,000 pound move to Sheffield Wednesday who were in the The Championship at the time. He played 29 times and scored once before moving on loan at Grimsby Town for match fitness after suffering a terrible injury. He did well there but then, with his contract over at Sheffield Wednedsay, Chris Armstrong found himself clubless and most importantly, unemployed. However, a year later Chris came back into football, getting a short term contract at Bradford City, he didn't play the best of his football, starting only four games and, once again, found himself unemployed and seeking another job. That's when Cheltenham came in, his current club, in mid 2005 and since then Chris is considered a strong squad player and a reliable Plan B.
