[edit] Plot
Ambush time at the Scotts. It is Dan's birthday and Royal and May Scott - Dan's parents - show up unexpectedly, eager to celebrate his birthday dinner. Immediately Dan comes up with another brilliant idea of his: he tells Deb not to inform his parents about their wedding problems. Of course, Nathan's team issues must be left out, as well. Deb can't help but ask him: "Any other lies I should remember?" Bad news. Peyton's father was working on a boat when a bad storm got started. Unfortunately, it was found a body and Peyton has to drive to Hilton Head and identify if it's him. Brooke tells Peyton that Lucas should drive her there since "Lucas is good in crisis, not that there’s going to be one, but I would probably end up falling apart and you’d end up taking care of me which is not the point."
Dan's birthday party, better known as The Dinner of the Lies, is officially begun. As soon as Nathan confesses he did quit the team because Dan was pushing him to much, May reveals something secret. When Dan was a freshman in college he injured his knee so badly that he had to quit basketball; well, it turns out May and Dan told Royal it was a permanent injury even though it wasn't the truth. Yep, Royal had been bullying Dan so much and Dan couldn't live like that. That's why May cannot believe Dan is doing the same with Nathan. Elsewhere, Peyton and Lucas can't cross a bridge because of the storm. They spend the night in a motel room and Peyton starts talking about her dad. To everyone's utter shock, it seems like they're - emotionally - bonding all the way. The next morning, 6 o'clock actually, they find out Peyton's dad is fine. Overwhelmed, they end up kissing. In the end, their intense kiss is interrupted by Peyton's hair which gets caught in the necklace that Brooke gave to Lucas. Peyton and Lucas stop.
Breakfast time. May is positive that Royal will get over the whole basketball situation, but Royal doesn't appear exactly eager. Later, Dan's parents drive back home but something is different now. Nathan decides he can't quit the team; as he explains to Haley: "I have to beat my dad. It’s the only way I’m ever going to be free of him". Meanwhile Peyton and Lucas are driving back to Tree Hill. Peyton assures Lucas what has just happened did not mean anything, but they both know this is only another lie.
