Creep (StarCraft)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the computer game StarCraft, Creep is an organic ground cover necessary for constructing 'structures' by the Zerg race. It is brownish in colour, and shares a certain resemblance to fish scales. It is automatically created by Hatcheries and Creep Colonies and recedes when they are destroyed.
[edit] Biology
Creep is a lower form of Zerg. It is similar to blood vessels in the sense that it is needed for Zerg buildings, which are essentially giant organisms to grow. When a Hatchery or Creep Colony and variations of these are built, it slowly generates Creep around it, eventually stopping when a certain radius is reached. The creep allows buildings to grow there, as Zerg buildings are living organisms. Any Zerg player may build on Creep, even if it was made by another Zerg player, but Protoss and Terran players may not.
Because Zerg buildings are immobile structures, they require the Creep to survive. However, if the source of creep around a building is destroyed, the building will still retain a minuscule amount of creep under it and will continue to live. Most Zerg units can move and have independent metabolisms, so they do not need Creep to survive. The creep provides mere nourishment for Zerg units. The Zerg Larvae, however, which are required to produce buildings, are completely dependent on the Creep for nourishment and will die shortly if removed from it.
