[edit] The Dungeon and the Parapet

Thorn dreams about how she was brought out of the burning city of Atheia by Briar, Rose Ben's sister, and then given to Rose, who delivers Thorn to the great red dragon. Toward the end of the dream, the dragon tries to get Thorn to look past a light and she says she sees a waterfall, but cannot see past that. Then Thorn, now in her Princess's clothing sees her mother for the first time. Thorn's mother tells Thorn to seek the Crown of Horns, but before she can explain what that is, Thorn wakes up.
Meanwhile, Grandma' Ben walks toward two Veni Yan warriors and a Vedu on the top of the castle wall. The Vedu makes a snide remark and Rose knocks him off the wall, thus signalling the loyalty of the Veni Yan toward Rose and how they have not betrayed her. Not too soon Briar and her army approach and a soldier threatens Tarsil in a Vedu hood, that if he decides to oppose her he shall die. Quickly Rose tells a Veni Yan to strike her a fire. Tarsil asks who would dare to approach him with a pathetic army and Briar answers that she has, and has come to reclaim the kingdom. She tries to scare Tarsil but he removes his hood declaring he fears nothing seeing as he has fought with dragons and we see his scarred, half burnt face. In response Briar pulls up her hood and reveals Tarsil's old, more handsome face. She then flies toward him with her scythe and cuts Tarsil in two. She orders her attack and then Rose orders a fire to a few nearby buildings. She also orders to use their pikes to push back the enemies ladders so they can't go over the wall. The battle begins and Rose climbs up the wall and is almost hit by a few arrows fired by Briar who gives her an evil look.

[edit] Mim

This chapter is a short story of 4 or 5 pages taking place in Thorn's dream. The Red Dragon asks Thorn to look into a light and try to see beyond it. The Red Dragon then tells the story of the Queen of Dragons, Mim, and how she was possessed by the Lord of the Locust when Mim kept balance of the dreaming. There was a battle that raised up the valley. We see Mim in this chapter for the first time. This story is also explained as a theory in Rock Jaw: Master of the Eastern Border.

[edit] Gaps

Granma Ben, Thorn, And the Bones clamber up a tower to have Thorn find out where all the ghost circles are, that are surrounding the city. She also sees Rock Jaw off in the hills. Soon after she has sudden visions of the valley exploding, and the Lord of the Locusts appearing. While the others tend to Thorn, Phoney and Smiley go to get the well open and take the treasure. Thorn's visions tell her that the Lord of the Locusts doesn't need her or Briar anymore, because he is using his original host(Mim). Phoney and Smiley are headed back to the gate with their haycart (with Bartleby and gold hidden in the hay), when the farmer who lost the cart sees it and knocks it over. Bartleby is exposed, and people start trying to kill him. Bartleby, Phoney, and Smiley narrowly escape. They start up the ladder as Fone and Thorn are coming down, and get in a fight. As they fight Thorn disappears, and Fone goes after her.

[edit] Escape From The City

Fone Bone looks for Thorn on Bartleby's back. They see her running from Rat Creatures by running into ghost circles. To find Thorn, Fone Bone holds Bartleby's stomach fur to move past the rat creature camp. They make it thourgh, and run into Thorn as she pops out of a ghost circle. They head to the moutains to seek the Crown of Horns. At the city the pawans are battering the door to the city, and Rose has the door flung open as the pawns charge. Smiley captures the two stupid, rat creatures, and has them spared. Fone and Thorn have to sneak past Rock Jaw, to get to the dragon graveyard, but Rock Jaw sees them. He stares at them for awhile, and then lets them leave unharmed. Thorn leaves without Fone Bone by facing an army head on, and flying over them, forcing Fone Bone to grab Bratleby's stomach fur again when the army sees him. They make it to the Dragon's graveyard, and Bartleby refuses to go down out of fear.

[edit] Chamber Of Horns

Smiley has an idea that if he bakes tons of food for the two rat creatures, they'll think that the siege won't work. Phoney and Rose are in a tunnel, leading to Briars hideout. Rose hopes to take Briar by surprise. And finally Fone is climbing down the huge gorge in the middle of the Dragon graveyard. He is racing against time because rat creatures are also looking for Thorn.

[edit] Homecoming

Mim starts coming out of a mass of clouds. The red dragon jumps onto Sinners' Rock and blasts the rat creatures. Mim's mouth and snout appear out of the clouds and the dragons burst out of the earth. The dragons envelop Mim and she falls into a hole in the earth.
