Crumlin, Dublin

Crumlin (Croimghlinn in Irish) is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, situated on the Southside of the city between Walkinstown, Drimnagh and Kimmage. Crumlin is usually considered to be in Dublin 12, a Dublin postal district, although some parts of it are sometimes considered as Dublin 6.

Crumlin is where Morrissey's mother lived.
It is also the childhood home of the late Phil Lynott, bassist, singer and poet, leader and co-founder of the rock band Thin Lizzy. He lived on Leighlin Road.
Also of Leighlin Road was the family of filmmaker and author Martin Duffy, the youngest of thirteen raised in one of the area's Dublin Corporation homes. Duffy based his first feature film The Boy from Mercury on his childhood experiences in the neighborhood and treated life there since the 1930's in detail in the biography of his parents, "Barney and Molly".
Christy Brown was an Irish author, painter and poet, born in Crumlin, Dublin.
Brendan Behan moved to Crumlin from Dublin City centre. He lived at 70 Kildare Road where the house is marked with a plaque in his honour.
Crumlin is where Martin Cahill AKA "The General" reigned.
Oliver Cromwell, on his way to Drogheda, camped near Crumlin Village (hence Cromwellsfort Road). On hearing of his approach, the local residents panicked and decided to vacate the area. They also released the residents of the local asylum (Lisle House) into the neighbourhood to prevent them from being slaughtered - as they thought. Many of them settled there and their families are there to this day. (Gleaned from T.Langan circa. 1999).
Eamonn Rogers Republic Of Ireland football interernational grew up on Cashel Road. Rogers appeared 19 times for Ireland between 1967-1972. His league clubs included Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Atheltic.
