Cynthia D. Brown
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cynthia D. Brown is a former Durham, North Carolina City Councilwoman. Brown was also a Candidate for U.S. Senate in 2002.
A long-time social activist and grassroots organizer, Cynthia D. Brown was one of 16 candidates (nine Democrats and seven Republicans) who sought the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Jesse Helms in 2002. As the only major candidate running with a strong progressive agenda, her campaign of social and environmental justice drew statewide attention. Although Brown made a strong showing in the primary against the likes of well-known State Legislator Dan Blue, North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, and former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles, she failed to gain the Democratic nomination. Erskine Bowles won the nomination and went on to fall to Elizabeth Dole in the general election. Brown is one of a handful of names rumored to be considering a run for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in 2008.
