V ucebnici zemepisu z r. 1911 jsem na str. 102 a 103 videl slovo "Britsko": "Spojené království Veliké Britannie a Irska krátce jmenujme Britsko." viz Sobek F. (1911): Všeobecný zeměpis. Díl druhý. Pro druhou třídu středních škol. 7., poslední učební osnově přizpůsobené vydání. Nakladatel I. L. Kober knihkupectví, Praha.
Podle jazykovedcu to v podstatě potvrzuje jednoticí schopnost přípony -sko, třebaže se to v případě Británie neujalo.
It might be a very good idea to mention in the article that the term "British Isles" is rarely if ever used in Ireland due to its political connotations. Any Czechs with Irish friends should be able to confirm this. For a general idea of Irish attitudes, have a look at the talk page of the English language article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:British_Isles Also, the Irish version of "British isles" on this page is non-existent. The very last people in Ireland who would refer to Ireland as being a "British Isle" would be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_language speakers, for all the obvious historical and political reasons.
