Daewoo Tico
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Daewoo Tico is a city car produced by the Korean automaker GM Daewoo from 1988 to 2001.
The Tico was based on the 1982 Suzuki Alto. The car was equipped with a three-cylinder S-TEC engine, displaced 796 cc, and had a five-speed manual transmission. The Tico was exported to Europe, mainly to eastern markets. Tico was and still is highly popular in countries like Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic and Peru. In 2000, the Tico was replaced with the Daewoo Matiz. In its years of production it has seen serious modifications. mostly in the engine, originally equipped with an old-fashioned carburetor (with 47 bhp), which was upgraded with a fuel injection system, thus reaching Euro 2 pollution standard, and also an increase of power (however Tico drivers sustain that the original carburator engine assured better performance).
Daewoo assembled Tico at the old Oltcit factory in Romania up to 2001. After that it was replaced by Daewoo Automobile Romania with a new car called Matiz.
