Daimonin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daimonin is a free software multiplayer online computer role-playing game that is based on the open source Crossfire.
Daimonin features an isometric graphic system, and some of the same features as Crossfire. Its server and client are licensed under the GNU General Public License, and some of the artwork, music, sounds, and maps falls under a separate artistic license. The game is currently beta, so there is only one beta server (that has many players) running.
The client and server (Beta 3) will run in Linux and Microsoft Windows. A preview for Beta 4 was released, and updated a few months after.
Daimonin features many of the same abilities as Crossfire, but it also has many improvements. Daimonin adds a combat targeting system that focuses the attack on an opponent and will automatically attack each turn. It also removes the need to use say in a command to say something. Instead, the player merely types what he or she wants to say. In order to use a command, he or she must prefix it with a /, similar to IRC.
Parts of the Daimonin world content are not available for download, with developers citing concerns about possible cheating by downloading maps. In order not to lose time supporting third party servers, Daimonin precompiled builds have also had the ability to connect to third-party servers disabled, inviting them to compile, distribute and support their own binaries.
