Talk:Dalit (disambiguation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've got a problem with the language "Dalit means the untouchable caste in India and Nepal". First of all, Dalits do not have caste at all – therein lies the problem and the source of their untouchability: they are outside the caste system. Second, untouchability as such has formally been abolished, and the term "untouchable" should be used as sparingly as Americans might use words like "Negro" or "coloured". Dalit or SCT are more commonly used terms nowadays, and frankly we should move the (sparse) material on the article "untouchable" here. QuartierLatin1968 07:42, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
