I thought Mavericks means young calves (cows/bulls), but that logo looks like a horse to me, anyone can explain the lineage? Thanks. Kenimaru 22:41, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

The creature that you see in the logo is a horse with the letter "M" stamped on its forehead. I do not think that the team name is derived from the definition that you mention; rather it (in my belief) refers to this one: An unorthodox or independent-minded person; a person who refuses to conform to the views of a particular group or party; an individualist. (credit OED) Also, the team logo's previous incarnation was a mere cowboy hat perched upon the letter "M"(you could easilly find an image through a google search) so the cow/bull imagery that you suggest was never present.--Schadenfreude52 22:01, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

I have taken the time to merge the information from History of the Dallas Mavericks to Dallas Mavericks. I felt that there was no need to have two pages when one would do perfectly fine. A schedule is inappropriate for an encyclopedia and I will be deleting it tomorrow. It should not be there, it should a telling of the facts and story of their run through the 2006 playoffs, not the current events schedule. --Mystalic 06:38, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

For now, I vote that we keep the schedule; it could be helpful later on in our documentation of the Mavs' entire playoff run. However, once the finals are over, I agree that there is no point to having the schedule and that its presence will weaken the page's "credibility" as an encyclopedia entry. --Schadenfreude52 20:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Someone keeps changing the statement "Mavericks officials and fans have cited poor officiating and phantom calls as secondary contributors to their loss to the Heat, especially concerning Game 5" to "NBA officials and fans have cited poor officiating and phantom calls as secondary contributors to their loss to the Heat, especially concerning Game 5". The citation at the end of the sentence was not made by anyone associated with the Mavericks.

[edit] 1st victory at Boston

Is it true that the Mavs' first victory in Boston occurred in the '96 season? If so, please have that mentioned because I remember it being such a jinx for them. Heck, even the Nuggets were able to win in Boston in the '88 season that saw them and the Mavs battling in the postseason. The Nuggets franchise can't feel so bad about that season. :-) -Amit

[edit] "Present" section renamed

Since the "Present" section mentioned events that happened in '04-05 and '05-06, I changed the name to something like "Big roster changes help lead team to Finals". I'm not completely happy with that title but at least it's more accurate... if anyone has a better one, please don't hesitate to edit it. ekedolphin 11:20, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
