When I was 14, I stood in front of my mirror with my hair brush lip-synching and pretending I was a rock star. The girls of DAME aren't just pretending to be rock stars, they are actually becoming rock stars!

DAME is a hard driving all girl band hitting the scene and paying their dues as the newest hardest working group in rock and roll. Bassist and Vocalist is Katee (14), Guitarist is Faye (15) and the powerhouse on the Drums is Kayla (13). Although each one is stunningly beautiful, don't let their looks fool you, these girls have talent that's far beyond their few years.

Their sound is developed from a strict diet of classic rock with sprinklings of metal and pop. Kayla boasts "We would like to think our sound will shake up the music scene that is predominately male." In regards to their name, "We needed a name that represented strength and dignity of the modern females of the world. Tables are turning and the world is taking notice." says Faye.

Katee reflects on their songwriting: "We are lucky when writing our music. Usually a riff that keeps us up at night will blossom into a killer tune in one day. Our lyrics are inspired not only by our own experiences but we tend to also write songs based on the life experiences of others. "Hey Angel", our most requested song right now is us questioning an angel about the horrible things going on in the world today."

DAME is influenced by a stimulating combination of Mozart to AC/DC to Marilyn Manson to Nine Inch Nails to Pink Floyd to Circa Survive.

Faye thinks sometimes too much is made of their age. She tells us that all the girls are very confident and secure in who they are. "The 3 of us are very different personalities and compliment each other beautifully. We are very much like sisters and find that communication within the band is the main key". Local fan Francis King agrees "Hey when you're good, you're good. It doesn't matter if you're 14 or 40."

But it's not only famous offspring that are impressed. Local bands are lining up to play with them and fans are appreciating the fresh sound. A fan identified as "not-Shannon" said about DAME, "You always hear teenage girls going, 'yuh i play guitar', but no one knows how to string chords together. DAME actually manages to pull something together. Nice going and good luck!"

To stay true, grounded and focused DAME's families provide great support and they keep them surrounded with professional musicians who are readily available for positive advice and constructive criticism. The girls say that kind of support makes a difference and shows in their skill and attitudes.

Big things are in store for these little ladies. "We remind ourselves regularly", says Katee, "To stick with our dreams, expect disappointment and negative feedback. You can't please everyone but the main thing is to please yourself."

I wish someone had told me that when I was 14 and dreaming of greatness!
