Dan Backs is a politician and current member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

Dan is well educated having graduated from St. Francis High School in Calgary, Alberta. Dan has earned certificates and degrees at many post secondary institutions all over the world. The most notably the University of Alberta and NAIT in Alberta.

Dan was a long time member of the Alberta Liberal Party, and had done extensive work for the party as a volunteer for many years prior to seeking public office.
Dan backs was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 2004 Alberta general election for the first time as a Alberta Liberal Party MLA for the provincial electoral district of Edmonton Manning. He defeated incumbent Tony Vandermeer from the Progressive Conservatives.
Dan was removed from the Liberal caucus in 2006, and forced to sit as an Independent. He currently claims to sit as an Independent Liberal. Prior to being removed from caucus Dan had won his nomination to run again for the Liberal party. Kevin Taft had stated his nomination was void, and a new candidate would be selected.
