IMDb profile |
Dangerous Women (1991) was a nighttime U.S. drama series (soap opera) about a group of women that served time in prison together. The main character that tied the show together was Faith Cronin (a mobster's wife). To leave behind her criminal record and her abusive husband, she staged her own death and created a new identity. She bought a lakefront inn not far from the prison where she was once held with her friends. One by one, as the other girls were released from prison, they eventually took refuge at the inn and strived to start their lives over together.
Dangerous Women premiered August 7, 1991 and aired only one season. The show was syndicated on a limited basis -- WWOR-TV in New York, WPWR-TV in Chicago and KCOP-TV in Los Angeles were known to have carried the program. In some markets, two 1-hour episodes aired back to back every Wednesday night (7pm - 9pm CST) with encores on Saturday nights (10pm - 12am CST). Dangerous Women had a particularly large gay audience due to its campy quality. It had reasonable ratings in New York, but it wasn't enough to keep the show going. It was pulled from the networks on January 31, 1992 after 52 episodes.
Several weeks before the show was officially cancelled, all six lead actresses appeared on an American talk show called The Richard Bey Show. It was a two part episode/appearance titled "The Real Dangerous Women". This appearance was their last attempt to keep the show on the air. Shortly after its American cancellation, the show was broadcast on Central Television - the ITV station serving the Midlands of England. It aired on Sunday and Monday nights, usually at around 11:30pm, and all 52 episodes aired. The show was later aired by cable TV station Living.
The series was based on the 1980s Australian serial drama, Prisoner, Cell Block H.
