Daniel Scioli (b. 13 January 1957) is the current vice president of Argentina under Néstor Kirchner (May 25, 2003–Present). Scioli presides over the Senate.
Before becoming a politician, Scioli was a champion motorboat racer. He lost his right arm during a race in the Parana River. He became a Deputy for Buenos Aires in 1997 for the Justicialist Party and was re-elected in 2001. That year he became Secretary for Sport and Tourism. Scioli was a former protege of Carlos Menem, a former President of Argentina who was also running in the 2003 election, leading to some complaints from his peers when he chose to run with Kirchner. Scioli is seen as a likely candidate for the governorship of Buenos Aires Province in 2007 [2].
